Conjunto de 4 áreas de importancia para las aves esteparias, de relieve llano o suavemente ondulado, ubicadas en la Comarca del Campo de Montiel, distribuidas en los términos municipales de Fuenllana-Montiel-Villahermosa, Alhambra-Montiel-Villanueva de los Infantes, Torrenueva-Santa Cruz de Mudela y Cózar-Torre de Juan Abad.

4.2 Quality and importance

Conjunto de 5 áreas cultivadas con pastizal y enclaves de encinar y coscojar intercalados, de gran interés para las aves esteparias, tanto por la diversidad de especies y cuantía de sus poblaciones, como por su distribución marginal, en el límite meridional del territorio de Castilla-La Mancha. Destacan las colonias de Aguilucho cenizo y Aguilucho pálido que se asientan en los llanos de Torrenueva, así como las poblaciones de Avutarda en las llanuras de Cózar-Torre de Juan Abad y llanuras al norte de Villanueva de la Fuente y las poblaciones de Sisón, Ganga, Ortega y Alcaraván distribuidas por todas las zonas antes mencionadas.

En diversos polígonos catastrales del término municipal de Alhambra se aplica un Programa de Ayudas a la adopción de prácticas agrícolas compatibles con la conservación del hábitat para las aves esteparias en la Comunidad Autónoma de Castilla-La Mancha (Orden de la Consejería de Agricultura y Medio Ambiente de 24 de marzo de 1995).
