Conjunto de 9 áreas de importancia para las aves esteparias, sobre todo la avutarda (Otis tarda), donde en la zona se concentra más del 60 % de la población de avutardas de Castilla-La Mancha. De relieve llano o suavemente ondulado, la zona se ubica en la comarca natural de La Mancha, entre las provincias de Cuenca, Ciudad Real y Toledo.

4.2 Quality and importance

Conjunto de áreas cultivadas con pastizal e intercalados con enclaves de encinar, coscojar y formaciones propias de estepas yesosas. La importancia de la zona rádica en la cuantía de las poblaciones de aves esteparias que alberga, sobre todo de avutarda.

En diversos polígonos catastrales de los municipios de Fuente de Pedro Naharro, Horcajo de Santiago, Torrubia del Campo, Uclés, Almendros, Villamayor de Santiago, Pozorrubio y Horcajo de Santiago en Cuenca y de Consuegra, Corral de Almaguer, Dosbarrios, El Romeral, La Guardia, Madridejos, Sta.Cruz de la Zarza, Tembleque, Turleque, Villacañas, Villanueva de Bogas, Villarrubia de Santiago y Villatobas en Toledo, se aplica el Programa de Ayudas a la adopción de prácticas agrícolas compatibles con la conservación del hábitat para las aves esteparias en la Comunidad Autónoma de Castilla-La Mancha (Orden de la Consejería de Agricultura y Medio Ambiente, de 24 de marzo de 1995)
