4.2 Quality and importance

La Zona engloba a la mejor representación en cuanto a diversidad y estado de conservación de la avifauna forestal y de los pisos alpino y subalpino de la Cordillera Cantábrica en la Comunidad Autónoma de Cantabria. Últimas poblaciones de urogallo cantábrico y buenas poblaciones de perdiz pardilla, ambos subendemismos en el límite oriental de distribución en la Cordillera.
