Other Site Characteristics

Espacio marino que comprende las aguas de la plataforma continental, entre el Cabo de Palos y la bahía de Alicante, hasta poco más allá de la isóbata de 50 m. Incluye las aguas circundantes a varias islas de pequeño tamaño, entre las que destacan la Isla Grosa (Murcia), Islas Hormigas (Murcia) y la isla de Tabarca (Alicante). Se trata de una zona marina de gran importancia como área de alimentación para seis especies de aves marinas, cinco de ellas con poblaciones nidificantes en diversas Zonas de Especial Protección para las Aves (ZEPA) del litoral e islotes de Murcia y Alicante.
