Isla de escasa altura situada en el extremo SE de la isla de Menorca. Está separada de tierra por un canal de cerca de un kilómetro.

4.2 Quality and importance

La isla mantiene colonias de todas las aves marinas nidificantes en las Baleares. Cuatro de ellas son prioritarias. Es un enclave importante para muchas especies de aves migratorias.

Área Natural de Especial Interés, según la Ley 1/1991, de 30 de enero, de Espacios Naturales y de Régimen Urbanístico de las Áreas de Especial Protección de las Islas Baleares. El Plan Territorial Insular de Menorca (aprobado en mayo de 2003) consolida la figura de ANEI, definiendo además Áreas de Alto Nivel de Protección (encinares, bosques de acebuche, zonas de protección costera, maquias de aladierno, zonas húmedas, islotes, sistemas dunares, acantilados, vegetación rupícola litoral, reservas marinas y barrancos. Toda la isla de Menorca está declarada Reserva de la Biosfera por el Programa MaB de la UNESCO desde 1993.
