4.2 Quality and importance

Sierra de altitud notable pero de relieves suaves, constituye la transición entre las montañas cantábricas y los sectores mediterráneos del sur de Cantabria. La aviafauna refleja ese carácter fronterizo, siendo el límite oriental en la actualidad de la distribución cántabra de la perdiz pardilla y en continuidad con las poblaciones de la vertiente castellanoleonesa, incluyendo uno de los núcleos más orientales de la subespecie en la Cordillera.
