Se encuentra incluido en el dominio geológico conocido como Arco de Gibraltar, constituido por la unión de cadenas montañosas magrebíes y béticas. La zona se enmarca en el "Complejo del Campo de Gibraltar" abarcando parte de las unidades tectónicas conocidas como "Unidad del Aljibe" y "Unidad de Algeciras",
