Algunas de las comunidades más características de esta zona son: Senecio bayonensis-Alnetum glutinosae; Iberidetum procumbentis; Zosteretum noltii.

4.2 Quality and importance

En todo el estuario predominan los ambientes fluvio-mareales, con presencia de bancos intermareales fangoso-arenosos, marismas salobres y carrizales. Los depositos sedimentarios llegan a formar diversas islas de considerable tamaño en el lado gallego (Canosa, Morraceira do Grilo, As Varandas, Pozas), con amplia superficie de pastizales y algunas de ellas profusamente arboladas. Las riberas y parte del perímetro de las marismas están dominadas por bosques y galerías ripícolas. El estuario acoge un promedio de 3.000 aves acuáticas, de las que 1.510 son anátidas y 1.125 limícolas. El río Miño alberga a las poblaciones de salmón atlántico más meridionales de Europa.
