Other Site Characteristics

ZEPA situada en la comarca y municipio de Cáceres, al oeste del mismo. Está formada por tres charcas que componen el complejo lagunar. Punto de concentración de aves acuáticas, especialmente durante el periodo invernal.

4.2 Quality and importance

Zona húmeda en el que está presente el hábitat Estanques temporales mediterráneos, hábitat de interés comunitario y de conservación prioritaria, incluido en el Anexo I la Directiva Hábitat. Dentro de la fauna, está presente un reptil incluido en el Anexo II de esta Directiva, el galápago leproso, y un total de 8 especies de aves incluidas en el Anexo I de la Directiva Aves. Desde el punto de vista ornítico destaca por la gran colonia de garcilla bueyera, así como por la invernada de anátidas, garcetas grandes, chorlitos dorados y avefrías, o el paso migratorio de limícolas, fumareles cariblancos y espátulas.
