Other Site Characteristics

ZEPA situada en el centro oeste de la provincia de Cáceres, en la comarca de Brozas, entre los límites municipales de Navas del Madroño y Brozas. Este pequeño embalse fue construido a principios del siglo XIX, embalsando las aguas de la Rivera de La Mata. Alberga una importante población de aves acuáticas invernantes, tratándose también de un punto de concentración postnupcial de cigüeña negra.

4.2 Quality and importance

Aguas de interior con presencia de pequeñas zonas de Estanques temporales mediterráneos, hábitat de interés comunitario y de conservación prioritaria, incluido en el Anexo I la Directiva Hábitat. Se localizan dos especies incluidas en el Anexo II de dicha Directiva, la nutria y el galápago leproso. En cuanto a las aves, han sido detectadas un total de 3 especies de aves incluidas en el Anexo II de la Directiva Aves, destacando las concentraciones postnupciales de cigüeña negra, especie En Peligro de Extinción.
