Other Site Characteristics

ZEPA situada en el centro de la provincia de Cáceres en el interior de la población de Cáceres, la cual presenta un enclave privilegiado en el centro de la ZEPA Llanos de Cáceres, un lugar donde especies como el Cernícalo primilla y la Cigüeña blanca encuentran su zona de alimentación. Los límites de la ZEPA coinciden con las murallas de la ciudad antigüa, la cual representa el mayor núcleo reproductor urbano de Cernícalo primilla del mundo, con casi trescientas parejas anidando en el casco histórico. Además Cáceres cuenta también con una de las mayores poblaciones urbanas de Cigüeña blanca.

4.2 Quality and importance

En este espacio engloba el casco antiguo de la ciudad de Cáceres, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad, se encuentran al menos 14 especies de aves, con dos taxones del Anexo I de la Directiva aves, Falco naumanni y Ciconia ciconia, en concentraciones importantes de reproducción. También existen al menos 5 especies como Apus apus, Apus pallidus, Delichon urbica, Hirundo rustica y Motacilla alba, que son migrantes de llegada regular. Entre el resto de especies no migratorias destacan Tyto alba y Monticola solitarius.Buena parte de las zonas de alimentación de las aves que se reproducen aquí se encuentran en la cercana ZEPA de Llanos de Cáceres y Sierra de Fuentes.Hay además presencia de un taxón del Anexo II de la Directiva Hábitats: Rhinolophus ferrumequinum. Y otro murcielago no presente en la directiva como Tadarida teniotis.
