Other Site Characteristics

ZEPA situada al oeste de la Comunidad Autónoma de Extremadura, entre las provincias de Badajoz y Cáceres, icluyendo las colonias ubicadas en el núcleo urbano de San Vicente de Alacántara y una colonia establecida en el cortijo de Las Costeras.La principal población de Cernícalo primilla (acompañado de cernícalo vulgar y cigüeña blanca) se encuentra junto al núcleo urbano de San Vicente de Alcántara, en el citado cortijo de Las Costeras. Sin embargo, otra parte de su población se encuentra distribuido por el centro de la población (algunos tejados de edificaciones antiguas), en especial en la Iglesia de San Vicente Mártir (mechinales y cornisas). Ambos grupos conforman la ZEPA de colonias de cernícalos primillas de San Vicente, de manera que todos estos falcónidos tienen su zona de alimentación común en las parcelas de pastos y cultivos de secano existentes entre el pueblo y el cortijo nombrado.

En este espacio se encuentra dos taxones del Anexo I de la Directiva aves, Falco naumanni, en concentraciones importantes de reproducción, dividido en dos núcleos claros y relevantes, y la Cigüeña blanca, formando dos colonias: una en la Iglesia de San Vicente y otra en el cortijo de Las Costeras. Además s encuentran dentro de la ZEPA otras 3 especies migradoras de llegada regular como Apus apus, Delichon urbica e Hiruno rustica.
