Other Site Characteristics

ZEPA situada en el centro oeste de la provincia de Cáceres, sobre las comarcas de Coria, Brozas y Cáceres. Este espacio está situado al oeste de Garrovillas. El espacio cuenta con varios cursos de agua, como el arroyo de Reana y el arroyo Garcicaballero. Los límites de esta ZEPA se encuentran situados sobre los términos de Alcántara, Garrovillas, Navas del Madroño, Portezuelo.El paisaje está conformado por un relieve suave, con pinares abiertos de pino piñonero mezclados con encinas y otras especies típicas del monte mediterráneo, sobre suelos graníticos y arenosos.

4.2 Quality and importance

Un total de 4 elementos referidos en la Directiva Hábitat se encuentran representados en dicho enclave. De ellos 3 son hábitat y 1 se corresponde con una especie del Anexo II. El paisaje se encuentra representado por pinares y extensiones de subestépicas de gramíneas, rodeadas de algunas etapas seriales de la dinámica de las Quercus como retamales. En cuanto a especies de la Directiva, destaca la presencia del galápago leproso (Mauremys leprosa). En este mismo enclave se localizan 3 especies incluidas en el Anexo I de la Directiva Aves. Destaca la reproducción de varias parejas de cigüeña negra (Ciconia nigra), espacie En Peligro de Extinción, así como las concentraciones invernales de avutarda (Otis tarda) y una colonia de cigüeña blanca (Ciconia ciconia).
