Other Site Characteristics

Zona de media montaña mediterránea de especial interés por formar parte del gran núcleo forestal que ocupa el centro de la comarcas del sur de la Comunitat Valenciana. Mantiene una excelente representación de hábitats forestales --entre los que destacan los pinares y algunos fragmentos de carrascal..y sobre todo una gran variedad de matorrales, que reflejan en su composición los matices edáficos y especialmente el marcado gradiente ombroclimático existente entre las vertientes del macizo o, lo que es lo mismo, entre el ambiente subhúmedo y el semiárido alicantino. También merecen destacarse los hábitats asociados a la presencia de yesos.

4.2 Quality and importance

Alberga poblaciones nidificantes de 16 especies de aves incluidas en el Anexo I de la Directiva 79/409/CEE. Alberga hasta cuatro territorios de Águila Real (aunque el máximo de parejas con reproducción fue en 2006, cuando criaron dos parejas). Nidifica también el Halcón Peregrino, Búho Real, Aguililla Calzada y Culebrera Europea. También es notable la presencia en estos hábitats rupícolas de la Chova Piquirroja. Los rangos de las poblaciones de aves reflejadas en el apartado 3.2 muestran los contingentes mínimos y máximos registrados en el periodo 2003-2008, elaborados a partir de censos oficiales.
