Other Site Characteristics

Área de relieve alomado constituida por un mosaico de vegetación natural, cultivos de secano y cultivos de regadío, drenado por una interesante red de ramblas y barrancos. Situada en un contexto marcadamente semiárido, las formaciones vegetales albergan magníficos pinares naturales de pino carrasco (pinus halepensis) acompañados por un coscojar con lentisco y palmito en buen estado de conservación. También son de destacar los tomillares y los prados anuales, ricos en especies endémicas y de interés. Los cauces de ríos y ramblas albergan también formaciones destacables, como los tarayares. En cuanto a las especies, debe destacarse por su relevancia la población de Hieraaetus fasciatus y, en menor medida, de Aquila chrysaetos, que tienen en esta zona una importante área de dispersión valenciana de los ejemplares inmaduros.

4.2 Quality and importance

Alberga poblaciones nidificantes de 12 especies de aves incluidas en el Anexo I de la Directiva 79/409/CEE. La zona es de especial importancia como área de dispersión para el Águila-azor Perdicera y Águila Real. La densidad de parejas reproductoras de Búho Real es muy elevada. Nidifican también el Halcón Peregrino, Culebrera Europea y Aguililla Calzada. Los rangos de las poblaciones de aves reflejadas en el apartado 3.2 muestran los contingentes mínimos y máximos registrados en el periodo 2003-2008, elaborados a partir de censos oficiales.
