Other Site Characteristics

Zona de alta y media montaña.Importantes masas de Quercus robur y Quercus pyrenaica. Abedulares , avellanos, castaños, alisos,tejos y serbales. Breazales húmedos meridionales de Erica ciliaris y Erica tetralix. Brezales secos. Diversificada comunidad de vertebrados debido a los desniveles altitudinales y a la variedad de hábitat. El sector meridional posee importantes representaciones botánicas con bosques mixtos de hayas, robles, avellanos y tejos y sotobosques de arándanos y brezos. Afloramientos calizos en el valle de Visuña.

4.2 Quality and importance

Diversificada comunidad de vertebrados debido a los desniveles altitudinales y a la variedad de hábitat.Hábitats apropiados para Oso Pardo, Lobo, Nutria, Urogallo Común y Culebrera Europea. Alto interés cinegético. Ancares, al norte, es una zona típicamente atlántica de alta y media montaña. Importantes masas de Quercus robur y Quercus pyrenaica. Abedulares , avellanos, castaños, alisos, tejos y serbales. Breazales húmedos meridionales de Erica ciliaris y Erica tetralix. Brezales secos. Courel, en el sector meridional, posee importantes representaciones botánicas con bosques mixtos de hayas, robles, avellanos y tejos y sotobosques de jaras arándanos y brezos. Afloramientos calizos en el valle de Visuña. Presencia de poblaciones estables de Lobo (Canis lupus).

Plan de Ordenación Cinegético. Plan de Recuperación del Oso pardo.(DECRETO 149/1992) El Plan de recuperación del oso pardo está en proceso de revisión y se estudia su ampliación para incluir el Courel como zona potencial de expansión.
