Other Site Characteristics
Espacio de gran interés paisajístico, ubicado en el sector oriental de la unidad morfoestructural de las Sierras de Albarracín dentro de la Rama Castellana de la Cordillera Ibérica, que asciende en las zonas más elevadas los 1700m, descendiendo en los valles internos a 1400m. Estas sierras constituyen un importante nudo hidrográfico entre las cuencas de los ríos Tajo, Júcar, Cabriel y Guadalaviar. Dominan las plataformas en materiales cretácicos, coronadas por rocas carbonatadas, (calizas y dolomías) del Cretácico superior. Presentan estructuras sinclinales laxas y arrasadas por superficies de erosión, en las que dominan las formas kársticas principalmente dolinas en cubeta y embudo. En algunos sectores bordeando las fosas internas del Cabriel y Tajo, los estratos se disponen en forma de barras calcáreas verticales que dan paso a los valles internos surcados por la red fluvial paralela a las estructuras ibéricas. Los valles están encajados pero han desarrollado una importante amplitud del fondo del valle relleno de materiales holocenos. En relación con los cursos fluviales dominantes se ha producido también una sedimentación travertínica, destacando las acumulaciones de tobas calcáreas del río Cabriel en el Vallecillo. Por encima de los 1500-1600m entramos en el piso oromediterráneo en el que dominan las comunidades orófilas bien adaptadas a los grandes fríos y capaces de desarrollar su actividad vegetativa y reproductora en un corto período de tiempo. El paisaje vegetal está caracterizado por vastas formaciones aciculifolias de Pinus sylvestris con Juniperus sabina. El aprovechamiento antrópico tradicional de este espacio montano se centra en la explotación silvícola de los pinares y el uso ganadero de los pastos orófilos. Por debajo de estas alturas, ya en el piso supramediterráneo, junto al pinar de Pinus sylvestris encontramos bosques de Pinus nigra y en otros sectores sabinares de Juniperus thurifera bien conservados. En las paredes y pendientes rocosas de naturaleza carbonatada hay una interesante vegetación casmofítica. Las extensas superficies con pastizales estacionales son aprovechadas para el pastoreo, que contribuye positivamente al mantenimiento de las formaciones de pastizal |
4.2 Quality and importance
Espacio bien conservado y de gran interés paisajístico, biogeográfico y geomorfológico dada la variedad de ambientes y geoformas que se combinan en este espacio de alta montaña mediterránea. Destacan las extensiones de bosques de coníferas y los reductos de sabinar de Juniperus phoenicea en las zonas más bajas. |
