Other Site Characteristics
Este LIC se ciñe al tamo medio-alto del río Arba de Biel que hunde su cabecera en la Sierra de Luesia y Santo Domingo, pertenecientes a las Sierras Exteriores Pirenaicas. La mayor parte de la cuenca se enmarca en la Depresión del Valle Medio del Ebro. Circula en dirección N-S por los depósitos terciarios de borde de cuenca constituidos por estratos alternantes de areniscas, arcillas y lutitas. El régimen hidrológico es de tipo pluvial presentando máximos caudales en el mes de marzo y mínimos en el estío. Registra importante pérdidas por evapotranspiración que se traducen en coeficientes de escorrentía bajos. Destaca la buena conservación de sus márgenes con formaciones de ribera maduras dominadas por Populus nigra, Populus alba, Salix alba y formaciones arbustivas del género Salix principalmente Salix eleagnos. Puntualmente, las zonas de acumulación de sedimentos, son colonizadas por especies del género Juncus sp. y Phragmites australis. En torno al río encontramos encinares colonizando las barras de arenisca. El río presenta un estado de conservación bueno, con algunos cultivos en zonas próximas al cauce. |

Destacan las formaciones de ribera maduras en algunos sectores con una gran diversidad especifica y que actúan como refugio de la flora y fauna. Este espacio actúa como corredor biológico entre las sierras prepirenaicas y el centro de la depresión del Ebro. |
