Other Site Characteristics

Curso fluvial de características mediterráneas en su tramo bajo, que incluye desde aguas abajo de Gurrea de Gállego hasta aguas arriba de Montañana. La escasez de pendiente y la homogeneidad de la terraza fluvial holocena sobre la que discurre, contribuye a la formación de meandros con acumulaciones de sedimentos en las partes convexas sobre los que se desarrollan interesantes sotos fluviales de gran variedad en los que dominan las especies arbóreas de Populus alba, Populus nigra y Salix alba, junto con otras formaciones arbustivas con especies del género Salix. La vegetación se distribuye en orlas alrededor del cauce del río, según el nivel de inundación anual y la humedad edáfica. Generalmente tras la banda de soto arbóreo encontramos otras especies de los géneros Fraxinus, Ulmus, Tamarix, etc. El río deposita barras y flechas de aluviones en las orillas del río, las cuales se encuentran en diferentes grados de colonización vegetal.
