Other Site Characteristics

Tramo fluvial tributario del Ebro por la derecha que presenta un escaso caudal debido a la desviación del agua para riego. El cauce discurre sobre formaciones detríticas terciarias de areniscas y arcillas sobre las que se han depositado terrazas fluviales pleistocenas y fondos holocenos. En algunos sectores próximos a la desembocadura del Ebro, el lecho está constituido por sedimentos finos en donde son abundantes las formaciones de Typha angustifolia y Arundo donax. Domina en la parte septentrional de este río una galería arbustiva mixta de estre 3 y 7 metros de altura rodeada por terrenos de cultivo y algunos romerales con Lygeum spartum. En la parte meridional encontramos sotos mixtos arbóreos con olmedas bien conservadas y algún tamarizal. La fauna piscícola más destacada en el tramo final son carpas y alburnos. Originariamente eran muy abundantes las madrillas, casi desaparecidas por la presencia de competidores.Algunas cultivos de chopos se localizan alrededor del cauce.

Este corredor fluvial destaca por la interesante vegetación de ribera que se desarrolla en sus márgenes hasta su desembocadura en el Ebro.
