Other Site Characteristics

Lugar que se apoya en las Hoces del Júcar, aguas abajo de Valdeganga, y hasta la salida del río hacia la Comundad de Valencia. La singularidad de estas hoces es que están labradas sobre calizas y margas terciarias. En su paisaje dominan los matorrales espinosos y los pinares de Pinus halepensis. En la propia hoz existen varios cascos urbanos (excluidos del lugar), huertos y plantaciones de chopos alternantes con el bosque galería natural.

4.2 Quality and importance

Profundo valle fluvial en labrado en calizas y margas predominantemente terciarias, excepto en su extremo oriental en que son secundarias, con abundantes escarpes, cubiertas de pinares de Pinus halepensis, coscojares (Rhamno lycioidis-Quercetum cociferae) y encinares (Quercetum rotundifoliae)en su orientación norte, y de espartizales (Arrhenathero-Stipetum tenacissimae), romerales (Cisto clusii-Rosmarinetum) y matorrales de sabina negra y boj (Buxo-Juniperetum phoeniceae, Rhamno lycioidis-Juniperetum phoeniceae) sobre todo en su orientación a solana. Los páramos expuestos poseen aulagares degradados (Salvio lavandulifoliae-Genistetum mugronensis).Floristicamente es importante por constituir un enclave termófilo a través del cual se introducen en la provincia de Albacete especies propias del dominio valenciano (Fraxinus ornus, Thymus piperella) y por contener un cierto número de endemismos de reducida distribución (Limonium sucronicum, Limonium lobetanicum, Chaenorhinum tenellum, etc.)Sus inaccesibles paredes constituyen un importante refugio para especies rupícolas (Falco peregrinus, Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax, Hieraaetus fasciatus, Aquila chrysaetos). En ellos existen comunidades rupícolas (Chaenorhino-Sarcocapnetum), y de paredones rezumantes (Trachelio coeruleae-Adiantetum capilli-veneris)El ecosistema fluvial se encuentra relativamente alterado por la existencia de numerosas presas de derivación de caudales, pero aún así presenta, a rodales, bunenas manifestaciones de bosques y arbustedas en galería (Rubio longifolii-Popukletum albae, Salicetum neotrichae, Tamaricetum gallicae, rubo ulmifolii-Nerietum oleandri)Adicionalmente, estas hoces presentan un gran valor paisajístico.
