Other Site Characteristics

Constituye una de las zonas húmedas de mayor interés, tanto por su extensión como por valor paisajístico y estado de conservación. La laguna de los Ojos de Villaverde es un humedal permanente de origen kárstico perteneciente a la cuenca del Júcar. Situado a una altitud media de 920 metros sobre el nivel del mar. La vegetación acuática coloniza las orillas y el fondo de la laguna, así como las charcas, los ojos y los canales.

4.2 Quality and importance

Mantiene formaciones de masiega (Cladium mariscus) bien conservadas que junto con las de las Tablas de Daimiel, son las más extensas de Castilla-La Mancha. El cinturón perilagunar formado por carrizales, espadañales, masegares y juncales sirve de protección a una rica fauna acuática. A su vez en la zona norte, en la parte más seca existe un sabinar maduro de sabina albar (Juniperus thurifera) que realza el valor natural del lugar.
