4.2 Quality and importance

Los saladares de Cordovilla y Agramón y la Laguna de Alboraj están localizados en la cuenca del río Segura, pertenecen a la subcuenca del río Mundo y a la misma red del arroyo de Tobarra. Son saladares de origen epigénico, su alta salinidad se debe a la naturaleza de los materiales sobre los cuales se asientan, y se hallan sometidos a periodos temporales de encharcamiento detreminados por el régimen pluviométrico de la zona, a los cuales deben estos ecosistemas su mantenimiento. La vegetación es fundamentalmente halófila y halonitrófila, con presencia de especies gipsófilas. Estos saladares constituyen un valioso refugio de flora adaptada a las condiciones de alta salinidad del suelo. Entre esta vegetación destaca el Helianthemum polygonoides, cistácea endémica que cuenta en el saladar de Cordovilla su única población conocida.En opinión de los especialistas, el Saladar de Cordovilla puede ser el saladar interior con mejor grado de conservación.

5.3 Site designation (optional)

La ZEC comparte territorio con tres Espacios Naturales Protegidos y una Zona Sensible: En la zona norte, coincide parcialmente con la Microrreserva de la Laguna de Alboraj (Decreto 182/2000, de 19 de diciembre), la Reserva Natural del Saladar de Cordovilla y su Zona Periférica de Protección (Decreto 121/2006 de 12 de diciembre) y el Área Crítica de Helianthemum polygonoides (Decreto 236/1999, de 14 de diciembre). En la zona sur coincide parcialmente con la Microrreserva del Saladar de Agramón (Decreto 81/2005, de 12 de julio).
