Other Site Characteristics
Las lagunas se asientan entre sierras, sobre rañas pliocuaternarias, que en su mayor parte se encuentran cultivadas. Únicamente aparece vegetación natural en las zonas estacionalmente encharcables de las cubetas lagunares, y pequeñas aéreas dispersas de encinar. |
4.2 Quality and importance
El carácter marcadamente estacional de las lagunas hace que la vegetación acuática e hidrófila florezca en un corto periodo de tiempo, al principio de la primavera, dependiendo en gran medida de las precipitaciones.
Los tipos de vegetación lagunar no pueden delimitarse con facilidad, pues se mezclan en el espacio y se suceden en el tiempo. En las zonas más inundadas aparecen comunidades de Ranunculus peltatus y Myriophyllum alterniflorum, también la presencia de los juncales churreros de Scirpus holoschoenus, los vallicares de Agrostis castellana en la orla que rodea al vaso lagunar; pero sobre todo cabe destacar la vegetación anfibia que alberga, como los pastizales de Isoetion, que se desarrollan en los bordes o en el propio vaso lagunar una vez que se encuentra seca. Ya en aéreas más alejadas aparecen restos de encinares, que han sido sustituidos poco a poco por cultivos de olivo o cereal.
Esta ZEC, especialmente la Laguna Grande de Alcoba, tiene importancia para la avifauna, por ser refugio de invernada tanto de especies acuáticas, como de una pequeña población de grullas en paso migratorio. Destaca también su importancia para los anfibios con la presencia del Sapillo pintojo (Discoglossus galganoi) y la ranita de San Antonio (Hyla arborea).
Estos pequeños humedales, que aún mantienen un aceptable grado de conservación, son enclaves que requieren protección ya que, además de ser muy sensibles a la degradación, favorecen la biodiversidad y funcionan como verdaderos oasis de vida. |
