Explanation(s):Plan de gestión del espacio Red Natura aprobado mediante la Orden de 7 de agosto de 2015, de la Consejería de Agricultura, Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Rural, por la que se aprueban: los planes de gestión de 13 espacios de la Red Natura 2000 en Castilla-La Mancha.

Other Site Characteristics

Montes del Sistema Ibérico con dirección noreste-sureste, se extiende por el sureste de la provincia de Guadalajara, destacando sobre las parameras del Señorío de Molina por sus excepcionales masas forestales, además de por la riqueza y valor ecológico de las formaciones vegetales existentes en este espacio natural.

4.2 Quality and importance

Esta Zona Especial de Conservación presenta, sobre un sustrato calizo-dolomítico, una interesante mezcla de vegetación supramediterránea en un buen estado de conservación, con formaciones boscosas y manchas de matorral ocupando extensas superficies. Destacan sus masas forestales de sabina albar (Juniperus thurifera), junto a bosques de pino silvestre (Pinus sylvestris) y pino laricio (Pinus nigra subsp. salzmannii), mezclados en ocasiones con encinares continentales (Quercus rotundifolia) y quejigares (Quercus faginea).Entre las comunidades arbustivas se encuentran, en las laderas húmedas y abrigadas con orientación de solana, enclaves singulares de formaciones como la bujedas (Buxus sempervirens) con aligustre (Ligustrum vulgare) y agracejos (Berberis vulgaris subsp. seroi), además de sabinares rastreros (Juniperus sabina) en las más altas y expuestas parameras.Asimismo, la gran diversidad de hábitats sustenta variedad y abundancia de especies faunísticas bajo unas condiciones climáticas muy continentales; contando con una buena representación de mamíferos carnívoros, como el tejón, gato montés o garduña, así como ungulados silvestres (ciervo y corzo). Finalmente, entre la avifauna destaca la utilización de la zona como área de nidificación o campeo por águila real, buitre leonado, alimoche y búho real.
