Other Site Characteristics
Area situada en el centro de la región, partiendo del embalse de Horno Tejero (ZEPA) en Cordobilla de Lácara, y recorriendo también parte de los términos municipales de Mérida y Aljucén, constituyéndose en corredor ecológico entre las áreas de Cornalvo y Sierra de San Pedro de Este a Oeste y entre Sierra de San Pedro y el Embalse de Canchales (ZEPA) situado junto a las vegas bajas de rio Guadiana, próximo a la ZEPA Embalse de montijo y el LIC Rio Aljucén Bajo. De esta forma la conexión ecológica natural mediante estos espacios de la Red Natura 2000 favorece el movimiento de especies silvestres y posibilita la protección de ecosistemas ribereños bien conservados.Comprende por una parte al río Lácara, que discurre de norte a sur uniendo la ZEPA-ZIR Sierra de San Pedro y ZEPA Embalse de Horno Tejero, con la ZEPA Embalse de Canchales, y por otra parte al afluente del Lácara: el arroyo del Valle de las Ventas que fluye de este a oeste al norte del límite de Cornalvo.En la zona conocida como "Prado de Lácara" se encuentra el Dolmen de Lácara, siendo uno de los dólmenes de corredor mejor conservados de la Península Ibérica. Así mismo en las cercanías de esta zona y junto al río Lácara aparecen tumbas antropomórficas y oteraderos en piedra natural, lo que demuestra la importancia antropológica y el valor social asociado a los valores naturales por los cuales este espacio se encuentra dentro de la Red natura 2000.Entre los hábitats, destacan las extensas Dehesas perennifolias de Quercus spp. Con casi la mitad del territorio, también cabe mencionar las Fresnedas termófilas de Fraxinus angustifolia y las Galerías y matorrales ribereños termomediterráneos. |
4.2 Quality and importance
Un total de 6 elementos referidos en la Directiva se encuentran representados en dicho enclave. De ellos 4 son hábitats y 2 se corresponden con taxones del Anexo II. Este enclave es muy importante, ya que establece la conexión entre otros espacios. Entre los hábitats destacan los bosques de ribera de fresnos y los bosques de quercineas. Las fresnedas entre bosques de alcornoques son el hábitat más peculiar, que alberga más taxones y que junto con los tamujares, son dignos de protección.Entre los taxones del Anexo II estan presentes el mamífero Lutra lutra y el reptil Mauremys leprosa. Además existen 5 taxones de anfibio fuera del anexo II destacando Alytes cisternasii y Bufo calamita, incluidos en el Anexo IV, otros dos de plantas como son Ophry tentredinifera y Serapias lingua, uno de aves (Buteo buteo), uno de mamíferos (Erinaceus europaeus) y otro de reptiles (Natrix natrix). |
