Other Site Characteristics

Área situada en el centro este de la región, sobre los límites provinciales de Cáceres y Badajoz, sobre los municipios de Logrosán y Navalvillar de Pela, entre las estribaciones de la Sierra de Valdecaballeros y la zona de las vegas del río Ruecas, cerca de Madrigalejo. Se encuentra entre dos grandes ríos, Ruecas y Cubilar, que trazan una amplia curva bordeando la Sierra de Pela. En este espacio predominan hábitats netamente mediterráneos como los bosques de quercíneas que ocupan una gran extensión en este espacio. Incluido en su totalidad dentro de la ZEPA Vegas del Ruecas, Cubilar y Moheda Alta, por lo que presenta una gran riqueza de fauna ornítica, destacando especies como la grulla común o el elanio azul. Además limita con la ZEPA "Llanos de Zorita y Embalse de Sierra Brava".

4.2 Quality and importance

Un total de 8 elementos referidos en la Directiva se encuentran representados en dicho enclave. De ellos 3 son hábitats y 5 se corresponden con taxones del Anexo II. Este espacio se caracteriza principalmente por la predominancia de un tipo de hábitat, las dehesas de quercíneas, estando estas acompañadas en algunas zonas por retamares. Las especies muy bien representadas corresponden los peces Chondrostoma wilkommi, Cobitis taenia y Rutilus alburnoides, el reptil Mauremys leprosa y el mamífero Lutra lutra.
