Other Site Characteristics

Situado en el sureste de Cáceres y al norte de las localidades de Logrosán y Zorita, ocupa también parte de los términos de Garciaz y Berzocana. Localizado entre las Sierras de Montánchez y Las Villuercas, como una continuación natural de éstas. Su altitud máxima es el Pico Venero de 1130 m. s. n. m. El terreno desciende suavemente hacia el norte, mientras que las laderas sureñas tienen pendientes mucho más abruptas, en las que nace el río Pizarroso.El hábitat típico es el formado por robledales, ocupando casi dos tercios del espacio.Limita al Este con el Espacio Red Natura 2000 ZEPA-LIC "Las Villuercas y Valle del Guadarranque".

4.2 Quality and importance

Un total de 15 elementos referidos en la Directiva se encuentran representados en dicho enclave. De ellos 3 son hábitats y 12 taxones presentes en el Anexo II. En este Espacio se encuentra la mitad de la superficie protegida extremeña de Robledales galaico-portugueses. Destacan, en el grupo de los reptiles, el Galápago europeo (Emys orbicularis), Galápago leproso (Mauremys leprosa) y Lagarto verdinegro (Lacerta schreiberi ). El grupo de mayor importancia son los quiròpteros con 5 especies y los invertebrados forestales como Cerambyx cerdo, Lucanus cervus y Euphydryas aurinia.Además se observan en la zona al menos 23 taxones de aves migradoras de llegada regular y otros 7 de aves sedentarias, destacando el azor y gavilan.
