Other Site Characteristics

Se localiza junto a otros importantes espacios en el extremo occidental de la comunidad, en los municipios de Valencia de Alcántara, Membrío y Salorino, conectando los espacios pertenecientes a la Red Natura 2000 de la Sierra de San Pedro y de los Llanos de Brozas, con la disparidad de hábitat existentes entre ambos lugares, destacados por su caracter serrano y estepario respectivamente. Además limita con los espacios Red Natura 2000 ZEPA-LIC "Sierra de San Pedro" y LIC "Cedillo y Tajo Internacional" y con el Parque Nacional del Tajo Internacional y está parcialmente incluido en la ZEPA "Río Tajo Internacional y Riberos".

4.2 Quality and importance

Un total de 14 elementos referidos en la Directiva se encuentran representados en dicho espacio. De ellos 5 son hábitats y 9 se corresponden con taxones del Anexo II. Los hábitats de mayor cobertura en este espacio corresponden a la presencia de Quercíneas. Los taxones corresponden a los mamíferos Canis lupus y Lynx pardinus (De los que aparecen registros historicos) y Microtus cabrerae, a los galápagos Mauremys leprosa y a especies piscícolas como Barbus comiza, Chondrostroma polylepis, Rutilus alburnoides, Chondrostroma lemmingii y Cobitis taenia. Además, un total de 5 elementos referidos en el Anexo I de la Directiva Aves se encuentran representados en dicho enclave: Aquila chrysaetos, Alcedo atthis, Oenanthe leucura, Gyps fulvus y Aegypius monachus. Destaca la importancia del Espacio como corredor ecológico que conecta los hábitats favorables para lince ibérico y lobo ibérico presentes en el Parque Natural del Tajo Internacional y del LIC Llanos de Brozas con los de la ZIR y LIC "Sierra de San Pedro".
