Other Site Characteristics

Singular LIC conformado por el espacio perteneciente a la finca del monasterio de Yuste. Este monasterio data del siglo XV y presente una compleja construcción con diferentes habitáculos. Los murciélagos se ubican en varias dependencias. En el momento de la propuesta del lugar como LIC, las colonias se repartían entre las antiguas cocinas y las bajo cubiertas del claustro. Posteriormente las colonias fueron desplazadas a lugares anexos de nueva construcción creados con el fin de poder albergar las colonias de manera sostenible y fuera de perturbaciones.El LIC es completado por todo el espacio incluido dentro de la finca del monasterio.

4.2 Quality and importance

Lugar de importancia internacional para quirópteros, al tratarse de una de la mayores colonias reproductoras europeas de murciélago grande de herradura (Rhinolophus ferruequinum). Destaca, asimismo, la colonia reproductora de murciélago ratonero pardo (Myotis emarginatus). Otras especies de quirópteros presentes en menor número pero igualmente destacables por su grado de amenazada son los murciélagos mediano de herradura (Rhinolophus mehelyi) y mediterráneo de herradura (Rhinolophus euryale).También están presentes otros quirópteros incluidos en el anexo II de la Directiva, como murciélagos de cueva (Miniopterus schreibersi), ratonero grande (Myotis myotis) y pequeño de herradura (Rhinolophus hipposideros), y otros no presentes en dicho anexo, como el murciélago enano (Pipistrellus pipistrellus) o el orejudo gris (Plecotus astriacus), sumando un total de 9 especies de quirópteros.En el exterior del edificio, y dentro del recinto del monasterio, está presente el hábitat de la Directiva Bosques galaico-portugueses de roble (9230), y en él, el ciervo volante (Lucanus cervus), gran escarabajo forestal incluido en el anexo II de la Directiva.
