Other Site Characteristics

Este área está asentada sobre un material sedimentario del oligoceno con litología de rocas calcáreas, lutitas, areniscas y yesos, acentuándose la litología superficial de estos últimos en la cuenca y en el lecho del río. Son yesos formados pro precipitación y sedimentación de las sales marinas en el oligoceno al evaporarse las últimas lagunas de aguas de mar que cubrían esta zona y que sugieren elevadas concentraciones de sulfato de calcio y carbonatos en los sedimentos del río.Flora característica de yesos con abundantes endemismos. Formaciones de pinar de carrasco, coscojares, romerales y pastos gipsicolas.Entre la fauna cabe destacar la presencia del cangrejo de río (Ausytorpotamobius pallipes)

Espacio caracterizado por la abundancia de yesos, lo que determina su paisaje y la flora gipsícola que se asienta sobre él. Existe además una población importante de cangrejo autóctono en el Clariana.
