Other Site Characteristics

La Zona Volcánica de la Garrotxa comprende una parte importante de la cuenca alta del río Fluvià, desde los 300 m de altitud hasta las cumbres más próximos a los 1.000 m. Formada por un importante conjunto volcánico, entre las sierras transversales eocénicas, que contiene una cuarentena de conos volcánicos de tipos estromboliano, cráteres de explosión y más de veinte coladas de lavas basálticas. Los caracteres fisiográficos de los valles de Olot, determinan la transición entre un paisaje vegetal mediterráneo marítimo húmedo, un paisaje submediterráneo y un paisaje de características netamente atlánticas. La fauna es típicamente medioeuropea.
