Espacio fluvial de gran valor ecológico y paisajistico al no estar interrumpido por ningún embalse artificial de agua y suponer un corredor biológico de primer orden. Posee bosques de ribera en muy buen estado de conservación, destacando sus alisedas. Se ha detectado la presencia de barbo de montaña (Barbus meridionalis).

4.2 Quality and importance

Es el mejor representante en Catalunya de sistemas fluviales de régimen mediterráneo. También es un espacio fluvial muy importante como conector biológico entre La Alta Garrotxa (ES5120001) y la zona costera (ES0000019), con presencia de nutria (Lutra lutra) y de barbo de montaña (Barbus meridionalis), que permite además la migración interna de éste entre sus distintos afluentes. Igualmente posee un buen estado de conservación de su vegetación de ribera.
