4.2 Quality and importance

área natural de gran extensión -la mayor de todas las propuestas-y con unas características que la convierten en uno de los espacios naturales más relevantes de la Comunitat Valenciana. Se trata de un área muy montañosa, surcada por numerosos barrancos y pequeños ríos que afluyen al Xúquer. Lo accidentado del relieve y el curso encajado de muchos de ellos permite la presencia de muchos hábitats propios de ecosistemas acuáticos muy raros en el contexto valenciano. Por otra parte, la práctica ausencia de núcleos y aprovechamientos humanos convierte la zona en la de mayor interés para la fauna de toda la Comunidad, aunque estas características ocasionan también importantes dificultades para su inventariación. Se incluye además un tramo importante del riu Xúquer hasta la presa de Tous.
