Other Site Characteristics

El sitio coincide con una parcela de cultivo de cereal que incluye un estanque temporal mediterráneo y su cuenca de recepción. Su ubicación en el centro de una extensa depresión hace pensar que antiguamente debió tener una extensión mucho mayor que la que tiene actualmente. Actualmente se trata de un estanque temporal de unos 100 m2 sobre suelos calcáreos arenosos.

4.2 Quality and importance

Actualmente el estanque temporal se encuentra en un estado pobre de conservación debido a la inexisténcia de separación entre el cultivo y el estanque. Por lo tanto su biodiversidad es baja aunque destaca la presencia de: - Polygonum romanum subsp. balearicum: planta endémica de las Islas Baleares. - Hyla meridionalis: amfibio incluido en el anejo IV de la Directiva Hábitats y en el Catálogo Nacional de Especies Amenazadas. - Triops cancriformis: crustáceo del Triásico que ha mantenido sus carácteres inalterados hasta la fecha y que es exclusivo de los estanques temporales. El estanque es utilizado como zona de reposo y abrevadero por numerosas especies de aves. En sus alrededores campean rapaces como Milvus milvus, Neophron percnopterus o Hieraaetus pennatus. Hay que tener en cuenta que 100% de la superfície del lugar coincide con una zona declarada ZEPA."
