El sitio coincide con la cuenca de recepción de un estanque temporal mediterráneo. Se trata de un pequeño estanque temporal (20m2 aprox) situado en el centro de una parcela de cultivo en tierras arcillosas silíceas. No existe ningun tipo de protección que separe el estanque de las tierras cultivadas.

4.2 Quality and importance

El interés del sitio es básicamente la preséncia del estanque temporal. Éste es singular por su situación. Por un lado, se localiza en una zona donde no se conocen más hábitats de este tipo, por otro, limita con una amnplia zona forestal, de manera que sirve como abrevadero a la fauna de la zona. En cuanto a biodiversidad, alberga especies vegetales tales como Callitriche stagnalis, Scirpus tabernaemontani, Tamarix africana o Isoetes durieui. Además, en el estanque cría Hyla meridionalis (amfibio incluido en el anejo IV de la Directiva Hábitats y en el Catálogo Nacional de Especies Amenazadas). El estanque es utilizado como zona de reposo y abrevadero de numerosas especies de aves y otras especies de interés cinegético. Destaca que en las proximidades del lugar cría y caza Milvus milvus, ave presente en el anejo I de la Directiva Aves y considerada en Peligro de Extinción en Baleares.

El 25 % del lugar es incluido en una Área Natural de Especial Interés según la Ley 1/1991 del Parlament Balear. El Plan Territorial Insular de Menorca (aprobado en mayo de 2003) consolida la figura de ANEI, definiendo además Áreas de Alto Nivel de Protección (encinares, bosques de acebuche, zonas de protección costera, maquias de aladierno, zonas húmedas, islotes, sistemas dunares, acantilados, vegetación rupícola litoral, reservas marinas y barrancos. Toda la isla de Menorca esta delcarada Reserva de Biosfera por el programa MAB de la UNESCO desde 1993.
