Other Site Characteristics
Lugar con una orografía accidentada, donde se observa grandes moles calizas alternando con barrancos y valles, con un clima mediterráneo de media montaña (seco con temperaturas relativamente extremas y una distribución irregular de las precipitaciones) que junto con los vientos predominantes del oeste condicionan en gran medida la distribución de las diversas comunidades vegetales, tanto altitudinalmente como su ubicación en las laderas. Asociaciones vegetales que varian desde encinares, melojares, quejigales-acerales, saucedas, tomillares dolomíticos hasta matorrales de genistas y pastizales higrófilos de alta montaña; existiendo abundantes pinares de repoblación y algunos rodales de pinares autoctonos (edafoxerófilos).
Por otro lado, en el complejo montañoso de la Sierra de Huétor las precipitaciones son superiores a las registradas en las altiplanicies y depresiones que la rodean, actuando por tanto como una "isla bioclimática" en un entorno cultivado; factor que define la singularidad e importancia del espacio. |
4.2 Quality and importance
Espacio importante para especies y hábitats de interés comunitario (Directiva 92/43/CEE). Destaca la presencia de Austropotamobius pallipes (cangrejo de río autóctono), una amplia representación de especies de lepidópteros (algunas catalogadas como raras o de distribución reducida), así como la presencia de numerosas especies endémicas y/o con algún régimen de protección especial. Entre las aves que frecuentan la ZEC destacan las rapaces, y en especial Aquila chrysaetos, Hieraaetus fasciatus y Falco peregrinus. |
