Dado el significativo grado de conservación que presenta el acebuchal, este espacio desempeña un papel de bosque isla en un entorno claramente antropizado, al actuar como refugio de especies de flora, fauna y hábitats de interés comunitario, al tiempo que contribuye a la diversificación del paisaje agrario.

4.2 Quality and importance

La prioridad de conservación seleccionada, sobre la que se orientará la gestión y la conservación de la ZEC Acebuchal de Alpízar, es el Hábitat de Interés Comunitario 5330 (matorrales termomediterráneos y pre-estépicos): la conservación de las particularidades ecológicas de este hábitat constituye una pieza fundamental para la preservación de los singulares valores ambientales. Conforma en el ámbito de la ZEC una masa forestal de gran singularidad tanto por el porte de los acebuches que la componen como por la estructura de la masa en su conjunto, incluidas el resto de especies características y acompañantes. Constituye el único motivo de declaración como Lugar de Importancia Comunitaria del espacio Acebuchal de Alpízar, y se trata del único elemento que recoge el Formulario Normalizado de Datos Red Natura 2000, a pesar de que se identificó por un error de interpretación como otro HIC (9320- Bosques de Olea y Ceratonia) en el LIC. Esto se debió a un error de interpretación de la comunidad vegetal más extendida en la ZEC, la de las arbustedas termófilas mediterráneas (Asparago albi-Rhamnetum oleoidis), entre la que destacan individuos arbóreos de acebuches y encinas. Estas arbustedas presentan un gran desarrollo y están claramente dominadas por una especie, el acebuche, siendo este el motivo que llevó a malinterpretar el hábitat, el cual se encontraría también fuera de su área de distribución biogeográfica.
