Other Site Characteristics
| Los relieves que rodean el Desfiladero de los Gaitanes se encuentran en una zona de gran complejidad tectónica, situada en el límite entre las Zonas Externas de la Cordillera Bética (Subbético Interno) y las Zonas Internas. Al norte y sur aparecen unidades alóctonas (Trías de Antequera y Unidades del Campo de Gibraltar), con una relación paleogeográfica difícil de determinar.
En general son suelos de poco espesor, erosionables, con edafogénesis poco avanzada. |
4.2 Quality and importance
| Interés geológico-geomorfológico, interés paisajístico y con presencia de endemismos vegetales y comunidades vegetales de interés.
Área de extensos sectores acantilados, con nidificación de Gaviota Patiamarilla (Larus cachinnans) y probablemente de Pardela Cenicienta (Calonectris diomedea). Importante invernada de Gaviota Sombría (Larus fuscus) y Gaviota Reidora (Larus ridibundus). Presencia regular en invernada de Alca Común (Alca torda). Nidifican sobre acantilados marinos una pareja de Águila-azor Perdicera (Hieraaetus fasciatus) y una pareja de Halcón Peregrino (Falco peregrinus). Última área de nidificación (hasta los años 70) de Águila Pescadora (Pandion haliaetus) en las costas peninsulares españolas.
