Other Site Characteristics
El espacio incluye un tramo de barranco desde la carretera 832 hasta la costa en la playa del Jorado, de poco más de 2 km de largo. Se trata de un barranco profundamente pliocénicos, y de paredes casi verticales. En su ladera izquierda destaca un pintoresco espigón, bajo el cual pasaba un antiguo camino real que dió nombre al topónimo de "Jorado" o "Jurado".
Los abruptos escarpes del barranco albergan nutridas poblaciones de rupícolas, entre las que se encuentran algunas especies amenazadas como Aeonium nobile o Polycarpaea smithii, junto a interesantes endemismos protegidos como almácigos (Pistacia atlantica), agaritofes (Cedronella canariensis), etc. Las grajas (Pyrrhocorax phyrrocorax), tan características de esta isla, nidifican entre los acantilados, junto a palomas y cernícalos, etc.
En algunos tramos del barranco hay pequeños bancales y plantaciones de frutales, y se practica el pastoreo, En cualquier caso, se trata de reminiscencias de activiades tradicionales más intensas en otro tiempo que hoy están casi abandonadas. En la desembocadura hay un pozo con varias galerias laterales, y a unos 150 m de latura se halla otro, en el denominado salto del Jurado. Se puede penetrar en el barranco por una pista que baja desde la carretera hasta su cauce, y siguiendo por ella varios cientos de metros se llega a una cantera clandestina, de uso esporádico. |

Alberga este espacio un barranco de interés paisajístico y geomorfológico por su configuración abrupta, de perfil transversal estrecho y paredes escarpadas, posee además un interés científico por sus poblaciones de flora rupícola plagada de endemismos y especies protegidas como Aeonium nobile o Pistacia atlantica. |
