| Paisaje acantilado con un importante piedemonte en su base, que se adentra por un barranquillo intermedio (barranco de los Guardias). El escarpe marca la antigua línea de mar, antes de que nuevas erupciones hubieran formado la actual isla baja.
La vegetación se compone de matorrales, donde las tabaibas -en las zonas más bajas del espacio- y las plantas rupícolas -en las más escarpadas-, constituyen la flora dominante. En el piedemonte del risco destacan especies representantes de antiguos bosques termófilos en sus facies más húmedas, como palmeras (Phoenix canariensis), barbuzanos (Apollonias barbujana), almácigos (Pistacia atlantica), palos de sangre (Marcetella moquiana), entre otras especies. Sobresalen las poblaciones de almácigos -las mejores de Tenerife- y los palmerales, pero también hay buenas muestras de dragos y cardonales, que trepan entre los riscos. La avifauna de este área se compone de canarios, currucas, mirlos, aguilillas, cernícalos, etc.
En la parte alta de este sitio hay algunas casas habitadas que pertenecen a la población de Tierra del Trigo, localizada sobre el escarpe. Dichas casas se disponen en torno a una estrecha carretera que desciende por el acantilado hasta la isla baja de las inmediaciones de Las Cruces. Esta vía atraviesa la zona dodne se encuentran las mejores poblaciones de almácigos, palmeras y barbuzanos. |
4.2 Quality and importance
| Este tramo de acantilado y su piedemonte asociado, albergan una interesante comunidad residual de bosque termófilo, con magníficas poblaciones de almácigos, palos de sangre, etc. Entre la flora destacan muchas especies protegidas como la chahorra (Sideretis kuegleriana) y cabezón (Cheirolophus webbianus). Por otro lado, todo el acantilado representa un flanco escénico para la isla baja, de gran valor estético, que se continúa hacia el Este por el resto del paisaje protegido de los acantilados de La Caleta, y hacia el Oeste, por los acantilados de Teno. |
