Other Site Characteristics
| Murhisalo on luonnonarvoiltaan erittäin merkittävä. Murhisalo käsittää mm. maassamme ainutlaatuisen suuren, lähes luonnontilaisena säilyneen järviketjun valuma-alueen. Alueella on myös runsaasti arvokkaita vanhoja luonnometsiä (kuivista kankaista lehtoihin), aapasoita, lettosoita, luhtia ja reheviä tulvaisia jokivarsimetsiä. Valtaosaa alueen metsistä on harvennettu. Metsien monirakenteisuus on kuitenkin säilynyt ja iäkästä ylispuustoa esiintyy kauttaaltaan. Erinomaisia aarniometsiä on suoalueella soidensuojelualueen pohjoispuolella mm. Losolehdon tienoo sekä toisaalta monissa kohdin rajavyöhykkeellä ja sen tuntumassa. Tienoolla on sekä korkeussuhteiltaan pienipiirteisen vaihtelevia että tasaisempia osia.
Murhisalon kasvi- ja eläinlajisto on edustava. Maakunnallisesti tai valtakunnallisesti uhanalaisia lajeja esiintyy alueella useita. Kääväkäslajistoa indikaattorina käyttäen inventoitu alue on maassamme ainutlaatuisen arvokas vanhan luonnonmetsän alue, joka sijoittuu eräässä pisteytyksessä samaan luokkaan esim. Patvinsuon kansallispuiston kanssa. Myös alueen suurnisäkäslajisto on varsin edustava.
Murhisalo on osa Suomen viimeisten vienankarjalaisten kylien, Hietajärven ja Kuivajärven, vanhaa nautinta-aluetta. |

| Kaikki tietolomakkeen taulukoissa 3.1 ja 3.2 mainitut luontotyypit ja lajit (lukuun ottamatta edustavuudeltaan luokkaan D luokiteltuja luontotyyppejä ja populaation merkittävyyden osalta luokkaan D luokiteltuja lajeja) kuuluvat alueen suojeluperusteisiin ja kaikkien niiden suojelutavoitteena on vähintäänkin alueen merkityksen säilyttäminen osana verkostoa.
Lisäksi alueen suojelussa ja hoidossa painotetaan seuraavia tavoitteita:
Alueella vallitseva luontotyyppien ja lajien sekä niiden elinympäristöjen tila säilytetään turvaamalla luonnon omien prosessien mukainen kehitys.
Luontotyypin tai lajin elinympäristön laatua tai lajin populaation elinvoimaisuutta parannetaan ennallistamis- ja hoitotoimenpitein. |
