Other Site Characteristics

La Haute vallée de l'Essonne, située dans la petite région du Gâtinais, entaille un plateau calcaire recouvert de limons marno-argileux. La vallée de l'Essonne ainsi que l'ensemble des vallées sèches connectées au lit majeur entaille les horizons géologiques inférieurs constitués de sables et de grès de Fontainebleau. Le substrat et les sols associés varient fortement au sein de ce site. Ces variations se répercutent sur les milieux naturels qui présentent une diversité et une richesse remarquables. Les rebords du plateau et les versants accueillent un ensemble de milieux secs (pelouses calcaires et sablo-calcaires, landes, bois, chaos de grès) ; le fond de vallée abrite des zones humides préservées (forêts alluviales, marais, tourbières). Ce site est menacé par la fermeture des milieux suite à l'abandon des pratiques agricoles, par les travaux de drainage, de remblaiement et de reprofilage des berges en fond de vallée. La surfréquentation localisée de certains milieux (pelouses principalement) peut engendrer des perturbations importantes.

4.2 Quality and importance

La Haute vallée de l'Essonne constitue un ensemble écologique de grande importance à l'échelon du bassin parisien. Cette entité est constituée de milieux humides remarquables résultants de l'évolution de bas marais alcalins. Les coteaux sont composés d'un ensemble de milieux secs hébergeant des espèces et habitats caractéristiques, rares et, pour certaines espèces, en limite d'aire de répartition.
