Other Site Characteristics

Situé sur des alluvions modernes de sables et cailloutis déposés par l'Aube Milieux relictuels encore en assez bon état, mais menacés par les mutations agricole (maïs, populiculture). Les habitats les plus remarquables sont tous très sensibles aux modifications du niveau de la nappe phréatique. Ils requièrent des inondations hivernales et des sols hydromorphes. La diversité des prairies est en grande partie conditionnée par une fauche annuelle et par très peu d'apports de fertilisants.

4.2 Quality and importance

Les prairies et bois alluviaux de la basse vallée alluviale de l'Aube forment un site éclaté et en mosaïque avec plusieurs habitats de la Directive Habitats. Certains sont très menacés et en voie de disparition rapide en Champagne-Ardenne : forêts riveraines à Orme lisse, petits marais tourbeux, mégaphorbiaies eutrophes, prairies à Molinie, prairies de fauche et prairies proches du Cnidion. Celles-ci sont des formations végétales médio-europénnes, très rares en France et parmi les mieux conservées avec celles du site de la Bassée. Site d'importance nationale.
