Other Site Characteristics

Site éclaté de deux noyaux de vallées sèches crayeuses du Ponthieu méridional : "vallée de Bouchon et de Villers" et "vallée de Nielle à Cocquerel", rassemblant deux séries calcicoles sèches, l'une thermo-continentale en limite d'aire nord-occidentale et centrée sur la pelouse de l'Avenulo pratensis-Festucetum lemanii subass. seselietosum montani (pelouse du Mesobromion, endémique de l'îlot continental chaud dit du "sud-amiénois") et mêlant des affinités continentales et méditerranéennes ici en limite d'influence ; l'autre série présente un léger caractère submontagnard particulier au val de Somme et la pelouse est un type endémique picardo-normand rare et localisé (vallée de la Somme, de la Haute-Oise, du Thérain,...). Le site de la vallée de la Nielle est avant tout remarquable par son immense et originale junipéraie impénétrable, exemple probablement unique d'un seuil de blocage dynamique lié au genévrier. L'état de conservation du site est surtout entaché par la traversée de l'A16 qui coupe en deux le coteau de Bouchon/Villers. Suite à l'abandon des systèmes traditionnels d'exploitation pastorale et à l'effondrement des pressions biotiques liées au lapin, la densification et l'embroussaillement sont en phase d'accélération, ce qui suggère une intervention conservatoire rapide et la mise en place d'un programme de gestion pastorale. La junipéraie de la vallée de la Nielle devrait faire l'objet d'un suivi dynamique régulier afin de traiter les éventuels surpassements du seuil de blocage actuel par éradiction sélective des arbustes incriminés (noyaux ligneux évolutifs vers un fourré calcicole à base d'angiospermes, puis un boisement thermo-xérocalcicole).

4.2 Quality and importance

Les deux vallées constituent un ensemble représentatif et exemplaire des potentialités de pelouses calcaires du plateau picard central : à ce titre, on insistera sur le réservoir faunistique spécifique au Genévrier (présent en populations importantes sur le site) et les paysages "monolithiques" particuliers et spectaculaires des coteaux à Genévriers. Les secteurs de pelouses et les jachères situées à proximité accueillent quelques espèces à fort enjeu de conservation en Picardie dont Stenobothrus stigmaticus et Cupido minimus pour la faune, et Adonis aestivalis, plante messicole.
