Other Site Characteristics

Le site est constitué par un réseau de cavités constitué d'anciennes carrières souterraines creusées dans la craie cenomanienne. Les ouvertures se trouvent à flan de falaise au sommet de laquelle se situe une citadelle médiévale. Outre les cavités, le site englobe les terrains situés devant les entrées qui constituent des zones de nourrissage pour les animaux. Très grande sensibilité à la fréquentation humaine (grottes facilement accessibles). Une éventuelle urbanisation des secteurs situés (projet de lotissement) devant les entrées des cavités constitue une menace forte pour le site.

4.2 Quality and importance

La présence d'environ 150 à 200 individus fait de ce site un des sites d'hibernation de chauves-souris les plus importants de l'Eure. La fréquentation du site par les chauves-souris ne cesse d'augmenter depuis quelques années, sans doute du fait d'une protection plus grande des entrées contre la fréquentation humaine.
