Other Site Characteristics

Entre Berry et Puisaye, la Loire conserve encore de nombreux caractères de la Loire berrichonne (lit anastomosé, îles végétalisées). Au delà, la vallée de la Loire présente 4 grands traits caractéristiques : - large val cultivé ; - méandres associés à des étendues fréquemment inondées ; - lit largement occupé par de vastes grèves de sable et de galets (rares îles boisées) ; - ripisylve limitée à quelques rares secteurs. Extraction de granulats. Création de plans d'eau. Fermeture des pelouses. Urbanisation de loisirs. Abandon du pâturage. Intensification des cultures (vergers, serres...). Activités de loisirs. Extension des espèces exotiques.

4.2 Quality and importance

Bon état de conservation des milieux. L'intérêt majeur du site repose sur les milieux et les espèces ligériens liés à la dynamique du fleuve. Ces milieux hébergent de nombreuses espèces de l'Annexe II. Vastes forêts alluviales résiduelles à bois dur parmi les plus belles et les plus représentatives de la Loire moyenne. Groupements végétaux automnaux remarquables des rives exondées (dont le Nanocyperion et le Chenopodion rubri avec 7 espèces de Chénopodes). Présence de colonies nicheuses de Sternes naine et pierrregarin, de sites de pêche du Balbuzard pêcheur et du Héron bihoreau. Reproduction du Milan noir et du Martin pêcheur. La courbe supérieure de la Loire d'Orléans à Sully joue un rôle très important pour la migration des oiseaux, limicoles en particulier.
