Other Site Characteristics

Vaste ensemble de prairies situées à la confluence du Cher et du Fouzon. Pelouses calcaires avec grottes à Chiroptères (anciennes champignonnières). Landes sur marnes avec zones submersibles à végétation de rives exondées en été.

4.2 Quality and importance

Les prairies du Fouzon (plus de 1000 ha), à la confluence du Cher et du Fouzon, sont l'un des derniers lieux de reproduction en région Centre du Courlis cendré (une dizaine de couples entre 1995 et 2000) et du Râle des genêts (3 couples en 2000, aucun depuis 2001). Le site voit également la nidification de la Pie-grièche écorcheur (entre 10 et 20 couples entre 1995 et 1999, 40 couples en 2000) et du Faucon hobereau. D'autre part, ce site présente de nombreuses espèces végétales, dont une quinzaine d'espèces protégées avec, entre autres, plusieurs espèces d'Orchidées, une fougère (l'Ophioglosse), la Violette élevée, la Grande Pimprenelle et le Pigamon jaune. Une partie de ces prairies fait l'objet d'une gestion par le Conservatoire et/ou de mesures agri-environnementales. Le site bénéficie du label paysage de reconquête.
