Other Site Characteristics

Situé sur les Côtes de Moselle, c'est un plateau calcaire entaillé par des vallons. Les roches en place sont à l'origine du relief de cuesta des côtes de Moselle. L'eau de pluie s'infiltrant a créé un réseau de galeries. Les vallons ont une faible largeur mais leurs versants sont raides. la principale menace concernait une sylviculture non adaptée à la gestion écologique des vallons froids. Ce risque paraît écarté vu l'intérêt patrimonial porté au site par l'Office National des Forêts.

4.2 Quality and importance

Il s'agit de trois vallons forestiers occupés par des hêtraies de fonds de vallons à Aconit et d'une forêt de ravin. Une grotte naturelle, le « trou de Robert Fey », est un refuge pour les chiroptères.
