Other Site Characteristics
| L'importance ornithologique de la vallée du Rhin dépend de la qualité des sites de nidification existants mais aussi de l'accueil réservé aux nombreuses espèces migrant vers le sud.
Ceci implique une gestion particulière des milieux afin d'offrir des conditions optimales :
- gestion forestière de la forêt alluviale,
- conservation ou restauration des milieux humides : roselières, bras morts, prairies alluviales,
- quiétude des oiseaux.
Cette gestion doit bien sûr être réalisée en concertation avec les organismes chargés de l'entretien et de la sécurisation de la navigation sur le Rhin ainsi que de l'exploitation des ouvrages hydroélectriques. |
4.2 Quality and importance
| Le Rhin a un attrait particulier pour les oiseaux d'eau. Ainsi, il sert d'étape aux oiseaux dans leur migration vers le sud et accueille en hiver des milliers d'anatidés (13% des populations hivernantes en France).
Cette partie du Rhin située entre Lauterbourg et Strasbourg est désignée en tant que ZICO car :
- 12 espèces de l'annexe I de la Directive Oiseaux sont nicheuses : la Cigogne blanche, le Blongios nain, la Bondrée apivore, le Busard des roseaux, le Martin pêcheur, le Milan noir, la Mouette mélanocéphale, le Pic noir, le Pic cendré, le Pic mar, le Gorge-bleu et la Pie grièche écorcheur.
- 42000 oiseaux d'eau sont hivernants sur le Rhin. on citera le Canard chipeau (400-700i), le Fuligule milouin (2500-7000i) et le Fuligule morillon (10000-20000i) dont les effectifs sont particulièrement remarquables.
